Microsorum pteropus ‘Windelov’, commonly known as Java Fern Windelov, is a popular variation recognized for its split leaf tips and bushy appearance. Recently reclassified asLeptochilus pteropus, this plant is still widely known in the aquarium hobby as Microsorum pteropus. Like other Java Fern varieties, it is extremely hardy and great for beginners.
As an epiphytic plant, Java Fern grows naturally on hard surfaces like driftwood and stone. This piece allows you to instantly add greenery and texture to your layout without the need for planting. Its rich green color and detailed leaf structure make it a great option for filling in open areas and softening hardscape.
Java Fern Windelov grows well in low to medium lighting and does great in low tech setups. While CO2 and added nutrients will improve growth, it will continue to thrive with minimal care. Be sure to keep the rhizome above the substrate if repositioning is needed. Over time, it can be propagated by dividing the rhizome and reattaching as desired.
