Microsorum pteropus ‘Philippines Mini’, also known as Java Fern Philippines Mini, is a compact and decorative Java Fern with very narrow, slender leaves and a fresh green color. Its leaf shape is similar to Java Fern Narrow Leaf, but even finer, giving it a more delicate look.
Recently reclassified asLeptochilus pteropus, this plant is still widely known in the aquarium hobby as Microsorum pteropus. However, like others, it is very hardy and easy to care for, making it a great introductory aquatic plant. It tolerates low light conditions and a wide range of water parameters, including brackish setups.
Its smaller size makes it especially ideal for nano aquariums or as a fine-textured accent plant in larger planted aquariums. When grouped, it creates a soft, natural look and can provide a secure place for smaller fish and shrimp.
As an epiphytic plant, it can be attached to driftwood, rocks, or aquarium decor using thread or glue. Be sure to keep the rhizome above the substrate to prevent rot. Occasional trimming of older leaves will help keep the plant looking clean and encourage healthy growth.
