The Lionhead Goldfish is probably the most recognizable and popular of all the goldfish species. The Lionhead is a more rounded body compared to the more slender bodies of the Common Goldfish. The goldfish has dual tail fins and dual anal fins for a very full look.
Bred originally in China and introduced to Japan in the 17th century, they can be distinguished by having a less contoured shape to its back.
Lionhead Goldfish are slow swimmers with a lifespan ranging from 5-10 years, reach a full length of around 6” or so.
Water Parameters :
- Temperature:72-78°F (22-25.5°C) is ideal, as they prefer warmer water than some goldfish.
- pH:6.0-8.0 (neutral is great).
- Hardness (GH):5-19.
- Filtration:Strong filtration is needed due to high waste, but it should be gentle to avoid strong currents.
- Water Changes:Weekly 25-30% water changes are crucial to keep nitrates low (below 20-30 ppm).
- Aeration:Essential, especially in warmer water.
