Staurogyne sp. ‘Bihar’ is a distinctive aquarium plant originally imported from the Bihar region of northern India, initially thought to be a Hygrophila species. However, its floral characteristics suggest it belongs to the Staurogyne genus. This rare plant features partially lobed submerged leaves, resembling Hygrophila pinnatifida, with an intriguing color range from olive green to reddish-brown, depending on lighting and nutrient conditions.
Though Staurogyne ‘Bihar’ is becoming more accessible in the U.S., it remains uncommon in the aquascaping hobby. In Europe, it has yet to gain widespread recognition, making it a unique choice for collectors and enthusiasts looking to add an exotic touch to their planted tanks.
