Purigen® is a premium synthetic filtration resin with the highest organic removal capacity available. Its vast surface area, both spherical and macroreticular, removes soluble and insoluble impurities faster and more effectively than competing products. Purigen® controls ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates by eliminating nitrogenous organic waste before it breaks down. It enhances redox, minimizes impact on trace elements, and polishes water to unmatched clarity. Designed for both freshwater and marine use, Purigen® darkens as it exhausts and is easily regenerated for long-term use.
Instructions:
Rinse before use. Place in a fine mesh (180-micron or less) filter bag, such as Seachem’s The Bag™, ensuring maximum water flow. Suitable for canister filters, media chambers, box filters, or trickle filters. Each 250 mL treats up to 1,000 L (250 US gallons) for up to six months. Exhaustion is indicated by dark brown or black discoloration.
Regeneration:
Soak in a 1:1 bleach-to-water solution for 24 hours in a non-metallic container. Use unscented, dye-free 8.25% hypochlorite bleach. Rinse thoroughly, then soak for 8 hours in a solution of 4 tbsp Prime® per cup of water. For freshwater use, soak an additional 4 hours in 2 tbsp buffer per cup of water. Ensure no chlorine smell remains before reuse. Some slime coat products may permanently foul Purigen®. If in doubt, test for residual chlorine before reuse.
