Schismatoglottis prietoi is a compact and versatile aquatic plant that resembles Anubias, featuring smooth, elliptical leaves approximately 1–3 inches long with broadly wavy edges. Native to fast-flowing rivers in the Philippines, this unique species is the only Schismatoglottis known to thrive fully submerged, forming dense, attractive clusters in aquariums. Its pale to vibrant green foliage and soft texture make it a popular choice for aquascapers seeking a compact, ground-covering plant that adds natural beauty and movement to freshwater tanks, including Nano Cubes and small planted setups.
This hardy plant grows well under medium to low lighting and tolerates temperatures from 68–82°F, pH levels of 6.5–7.5, and soft to hard water, making it easy to maintain in a wide variety of aquarium conditions. Schismatoglottis prietoi produces runners when planted in the substrate, providing fast coverage and easy propagation through rhizome division. It can also be attached to rocks or driftwood, allowing for versatile aquascaping designs. Optional CO₂ supplementation accelerates growth, but the plant performs reliably without it, making Schismatoglottis prietoi an ideal choice for both beginner and experienced aquarists looking for a compact, low-maintenance, and visually striking freshwater aquarium plant.
