Purple Albino Mystery Snail
Purple Albino Mystery Snail(Pomacea bridgesii) displays a pale shell with purple-tinted coloration and a light-colored foot — a delicate, unusual color combination within the Mystery Snail range. Mystery Snails are one of the most popular and beginner-friendly freshwater invertebrates available — peaceful, actively visible, and available in a wide range of shell colors. They are excellent algae and detritus cleaners, and their large, rounded shells and distinctive trapdoor make them one of the most recognizable snails in the hobby.
⚠ Copper Warning:Copper isfatalto all snails — even trace amounts. Never use copper-based medications or treatments in any aquarium housing snails. Check the ingredients of any fish medication before adding it to a snail tank. If in doubt, move snails to a separate container before treating.
Native to South America — Bolivia, Peru, Paraguay, and Brazil — where they inhabit rivers, swamps, and ponds scavenging plant matter and algae from the substrate.Pomacea bridgesiiis the most popular mystery snail in the hobby specifically because, unlike some of its larger apple snail relatives, it iscompletely plant-safe— it will not eat healthy living plants, making it ideal for planted aquariums. The name ‘mystery snail’ originated from the seemingly mysterious ability of these snails to seal themselves inside their shell with a trapdoor (operculum) and disappear for days, only to reappear perfectly healthy.
Mystery Snails breathe both through gills and a lung — they regularly extend a breathing siphon to the water surface to take in air. Always leave an air gap between the water surface and the lid. They are also accomplished climbers and escape artists —Glasgarten SnailSafeapplied to the tank rim is strongly recommended. Mystery Snails cannot self-fertilize and require both male and female to breed. Eggs are laid in distinctive pink-coral clutchesabovethe waterline and are easy to identify and remove if breeding control is desired.
Feeding & Care Tip:Mystery Snails are enthusiastic and constant foragers.Glasgarten Snail Dinneris an excellent primary food — formulated specifically for snails with the mineral content they need. Supplement withHikari Mini Algae WafersandHikari Sinking Wafers, and offer blanched vegetables (zucchini, spinach, kale) 2–3 times per week. Shell health is critical — addGlasgarten Mineral Junkie TreatsandGlasgarten Mineral Treatsregularly to provide the calcium and minerals needed for strong shell growth. Soft or acidic water will erode shells over time — maintain pH above 7.0 and moderate hardness.
Glasgarten SnailSafe:Apply to the rim of the aquarium to deter snails from climbing out — a common behavior particularly in Nerite and Mystery Snails. A thin application around the top edge of the glass creates a safe barrier that discourages escape without harming the snails.
