How gorgeous is this Ornate Bichir? These guys grow to be about 18 inches long. They are generally peaceful when kept with fish that are too large to fit in their mouth. Any fish small enough for them to eat, they will. This being said, they do best with large peaceful/semi-aggressive fish. Bichirs are carnivorous and should be fed a variety of meaty foods such as frozen bloodworms, tubifex worms, brine shrimp or live worms. Lastly, be sure to have a tight fitting lid when keeping bichirs because they are not afraid to jump.
