Micranthemum tweediei ‘Monte Carlo’ hails from Argentina and is known for its compact, round, light-green leaves that grow on creeping stalks, creating a dense carpet in the aquarium foreground. Its appearance is similar to Dwarf Baby Tears (Hemianthus callitrichoides ‘Cuba’), but it is much more beginner-friendly. In addition to carpeting the substrate, Monte Carlo can also attach to wood and porous stones, functioning as an epiphyte, adding versatility to its use in aquascapes.
To thrive and grow compactly, Monte Carlo requires strong lighting and CO2 injection. It is a fast grower, so frequent trimming is necessary to prevent the lower layers of the carpet from dying off and detaching from the substrate. With proper care, this plant can quickly transform the aquarium into a lush green landscape, ideal for both beginners and advanced hobbyists.
