TheLee’s 12″ Slim Gravel Vacuumis the right-sized vac for 40–75 gallon tanks — a 12-inch slim profile tube that reaches deeper than the standard 9″ vac without becoming unwieldy in a planted scape. Self-start valve primes the siphon without mouth contact, and the included hose clip keeps your discharge hose attached to your bucket so you can vacuum hands-free. What It’s For
The sweet-spot vac for medium-to-large tanks. The 12″ tube reaches the substrate in a 40-breeder, 55-gallon, 65, or 75-gallon without standing on a stool, while the slim body lets you actually maneuver between rocks and plants. Thehose clipkeeps the discharge end of your hose hooked to the bucket rim — no more popping out at the wrong moment and soaking the floor. Self-start valve means no mouth on the hose, ever.

How to Use
Connect the discharge hose to a bucket positionedlowerthan the tank. Clip the hose to the bucket rim with the included clip. Place the vac tube into the substrate and give it a quick up-and-down shake — the self-start valve will prime the siphon and water will begin flowing. Move methodically across the substrate, letting debris and mulm pull up while heavier gravel falls back. Use 25%-water-change vacuuming as a routine; deep-clean a third of the substrate per session to avoid disturbing your beneficial bacteria.

FAQ
9″ vs 12″ vs Stretch — which one for me?
Pick the9″for tanks 10–40 gallons. Pick the12″for tanks 40–75 gallons (this one). Pick theStretch (9″–17″)if you have multiple tanks of different depths and want one tool that fits all of them.
Will it scratch my acrylic tank?
The plastic body is non-abrasive against acrylic, but don’t press the vac tube hard against the wall. Gentle substrate-level use is fine.
How often should I gravel vac?
Most freshwater keepers vacuum during weekly or bi-weekly water changes. Deep-clean a third of the substrate per session — never the whole tank — to avoid disturbing the established beneficial bacteria colony in the substrate. Reef tanks rarely need substrate vacuuming since they’re typically bare-bottom or shallow sand.
Does it work with planted tank substrates?
Yes — the slim profile is actually ideal for planted tanks where you need to clean between stems and around carpet plants without uprooting them. Hover just above the carpet rather than burying the tube.
