Hygrophila sp. Chai UNS Tissue Culture – UNSTC

Hygrophila sp. Chai is an extremely rare mutation of the well-known Hygrophila lancea ‘Araguaia’, and remains one of the more elusive plants in the aquarium hobby. Due to its rarity and limited cultivation, available quantities are typically limited. This unique aquarium plant features slender leaves with signature olive-red tones that can develop vivid pink tones under certain conditions. Chai grows in a compact, creeping habit similar to standard Araguaia.

Unlike typical aquarium stem plants, Hygrophila Araguaia sp. Chai grows in short, bushy clusters, making it well suited for use as a foreground-to-midground accent. It works especially well in nature-style and Dutch-inspired layouts where texture and color variation are key. Propagation is straightforward once established and can be achieved by trimming lateral shoots or cutting along the stem and replanting. As with other Hygrophila varieties, consistent lighting, nutrient-rich substrate, and CO2 injection will yield the best coloration and growth.
