Known as “Araguaia”, this plant is thought to be a form of Hygrophila lancea from Japan and Hong Kong, despite its name referencing a river system in Brazil. It grows to a height of 4–8 inches and spreads 2.5–6 inches wide, with compact, tightly arranged leaves and a natural tendency to branch. Regular pinching of stems helps maintain its bushy appearance. Under optimal conditions, its foliage develops stunning reddish-brown to purple hues. With a moderate growth rate typical of Hygrophila, this plant adds vibrant color and texture to any aquascape.
