How To Use:
Carefully take the plant out of the cup and thoroughly rinse off the growing media (agar) in a container of water.
Split the plant in 6-8 portions using your fingers or sharp scissors. Definitely use sharp scissors to separate any small foreground plants.
Plant the portions into the substrate using tweezers, then watch them grow!
H. palustris is a relatively easy-to-cultivate aquarium plant that thrives under strong lighting and a consistent supply of nitrate and phosphate. To maintain healthy growth, lighting should be at least 0.5 watts per liter, as low light can cause the lower parts to rot. This European native is well-suited for coldwater tanks, though it can also do well in tropical aquariums as long as temperatures stay below 79°F. Cooler water promotes wider, healthier shoots up to 5 cm in diameter. A steady supply of NO3 (above 5 mg/l) and PO4 (above 0.5 mg/l) is crucial for preventing nutrient deficiencies, which can lead to stunted growth and discoloration.
Under optimal conditions, H. palustris grows quickly and produces numerous lateral shoots, making it ideal for creating dense, bushy sections in the aquarium’s middleground. Trimming can be done by pinching off the top shoot or replanting the top for propagation. Its unique snow crystal-like leaves offer an appealing contrast in Dutch-style or nature aquarium layouts, adding texture and interest to your aquascape.
