Horned Nerite Snails are small freshwater snails that are popular in the aquarium hobby for their unique appearance and algae-eating habits. Like other freshwater snails, Horned Nerites are generally peaceful critters and are easy to care for. We recommend adding these snails to covered planted aquariums as they can and will likely try to crawl out.
The Horned Nerite can be identified by little protruding horns on the shell and are primarily brownish-black with hints of golden yellow. These snails do not breed in freshwater and can also be kept in brackish waters. Aquarium snails will help clean your aquarium glass, but will also happily turn over the substrate. They’ll spend all day foraging, but we recommend providing quality sinking pellets as well. Warmer waters and stable pH levels are necessary, but other than this, Horned Nerites are generally easy to care for and will add interest to any aquarium tank.
Tank size recommendation:5-10G for 1-2 snails
Aquarium snails are extremely sensitive to copper. If using tap, be sure to use a dechlorinator to ensure safety for your invertebrates.
