Homalomena Silver
Homalomena Silveris a striking Indonesian aquatic plant from Borneo producing thick, glossy, waxy leaves with a distinctive silvery sheen that gives the plant a cool, metallic appearance quite different from the typical green palette of aquarium plants. The glossy, silver-toned broad leaves and the clumping, rhizomatous growth habit make it botanically similar to Anubias and Bucephalandra — a slow-growing, shade-tolerant plant that attaches readily to hardscape and creates a bold, distinctive midground presence.
Planting tip:Homalomena Silver grows best attached to or resting on hardscape with its rhizome exposed — never bury the rhizome. Shade-tolerant and low-maintenance once established. Stable water parameters and good circulation produce the best results.
Like Anubias and Bucephalandra, Homalomena Silver should never have its rhizome buried — the rhizome must remain exposed on the hardscape surface or above the substrate. It is genuinely shade-tolerant and grows well in the lower-light zones of the aquarium where other plants would struggle. The thick, waxy leaves are resistant to algae and maintain their attractive glossy silver appearance reliably across a range of conditions.
This moderate plant grows in low to moderate lighting with CO₂ optional. Temperatures between 72 and 82°F and a pH of 6.0 to 7.5 provide comfortable conditions. Regular fertilization supports the slow but steady production of the distinctive thick, silvery leaves. Good water circulation maintains the leaf clarity and prevents sediment accumulation on the broad leaf surface.
