Koi Feeding Guidelines: Adjusting for Water Temperature

To ensure the health and vitality of your koi, it’s essential to monitor water temperature regularly and adapt your feeding regimen accordingly. Here’s how:

General Feeding Guidelines:

• Monitor water temperature, water condition, fish quantity, and size, as well as their activity level to determine feeding requirements.
• Avoid over-feeding, and always remove any uneaten food after each feeding session to maintain water quality.

Temperature-Specific Recommendations:

• 64-86°F (18-30°C):Feed your koi two to four times daily, providing an amount they can consume entirely within five minutes.

• 41-64°F (5-18°C):Feed no more than twice daily, ensuring your koi finish their meal within five minutes. Consider feeding during the warmer part of the day for optimal results.

• Below 41°F (5°C):Refrain from feeding your fish during temperatures this low.

Special Considerations:

• During periods of appetite loss, illness, or when medicating your koi, their eating habits may decrease significantly. Carefully monitor the food quantity to avoid potential issues.
