TheHikari Mossy Skullis a hand-painted resin ornament that looks like a moss-covered skull pulled straight out of a swamp scene. It doubles as a real hide cave — there’s actual interior space for fish to swim through — so it works as both an aquascape statement and functional cover. What It’s For
The Mossy Skull is perfect forthemed aquascapes— pirate, jungle, swamp, Halloween, or just dramatic centerpiece in a community tank. The interior is large enough to shelterbettas, dwarf cichlids, kuhli loaches, plecos, shrimp, and small catfish. Place it on the substrate or partially burying the base for a “skull half-submerged in muck” effect, or set it on a piece of driftwood for elevated drama.

Setup Tips
Rinse the skull under tap water to clear any manufacturing dust before adding it to the tank. Place it on the glass bottom or partially buried in substrate for a “half-uncovered” effect. For a swamp/jungle aquascape, pair with driftwood and live plants like java fern or anubias growing nearby. The eye sockets and jaw opening let fish swim through, so position the cave openings to be accessible from your fish’s territory.

FAQ
Is the resin actually safe for fish?
Yes. The resin Hikari uses for their decor line is inert, non-toxic, and won’t leach anything into the water. It’s safe for freshwater, brackish, and saltwater including reef tanks.
Will my betta use it as a hide?
Most bettas love a structured cave. The skull’s interior is roomy enough for a betta to fully enter and turn around. If your betta is shy, position the skull in the back-third of the tank for the most security.
How do I clean moss/algae off?
During water changes, rinse the skull in old tank water and gently brush with an old toothbrush. Avoid soap and bleach. Real algae growth on the surface is fine — it actually makes the moss effect look more believable.
Will it tip over?
The base is flat and weighted-feeling for a resin piece. On bare glass it sits flat. On loose substrate, push it down to bed it in.
