Helanthium Tenellum, sometimes referred to as Echinodorus Tenellus, is a grass-like aquatic plant that is commonly used for its carpeting tendencies. Its appearance is similar to other popular carpeting aquarium plants like Dwarf Hair Grass and Lilaeopsis Novaezelandiae (Micro Sword). It propagates by sending runners throughout the substrate! This carpet plant is generally easy to keep and will spread readily in most tank settings. We recommend using it as a foreground or midground choice, but it can also be planted as a unique background plant in nano aquariums. Like other plants that spread via runners, regular pruning will be necessary to control spread.
High lighting and CO2 injection are not required to grow this variety, but will yield quicker and fuller growth. To plant it, start by separating larger mats into small portions. Use quality aquarium tweezers to plant each portion an inch or so apart halfway into the substrate. Use it by itself or combine it with other species for a wabi sabi mix of carpeting plants in your planted aquarium.
