Why Should I Test for Hardness?

• KH (Carbonate Hardness):KH is crucial for maintaining a stable pH in your aquarium. It measures the water’s ability to buffer against pH changes, preventing sudden fluctuations that can stress or harm fish. A KH level between 6 and 8 dKH is desirable, with a minimum of 4 dKH to ensure adequate buffering capacity.
• GH (General Hardness):GH measures the concentration of minerals like calcium and magnesium in the water. The correct GH level varies depending on the fish species. Soft water species prefer a GH of around 3 to 6 dGH, while hard water species thrive at levels between 10 and 15 dGH.
