Galapagos Sinkable Driftwood
Galapagos Sinkable Driftwoodis exactly what the name promises — natural aquarium driftwood chosen for its density and rugged, weathered character, with the kind of craggy texture and irregular form that gives a tank an authentic, been-there-for-years look. It’s a versatile, foundational hardscape wood: substantial enough to act as a standalone centerpiece in a smaller tank, and easy to group or stack as the structural base of a larger layout. Its dark, organic tone provides a striking backdrop for green plants and brightly colored fish alike.
Aquascaping Tip:This is a wood you buildon. Use a larger piece as the anchoring structure low in the scape, then layer finer, branchier wood or stone on top to add height and detail. The textured surface takes moss,Anubias, andBucephalandrareadily — wrap or glue them along the wood and let them fill in to soften the hardscape into a lush, mature aquascape. Its nooks and crevices also double as welcome hiding spots and grazing surfaces for shrimp and bottom-dwelling fish.
Like all natural driftwood it will eventually develop a rich patina and a healthy film of life as the tank matures, becoming part of the ecosystem rather than just decoration. And because every piece is unique, the exact shape, size, and grain vary — so whatever you build with it will be one of a kind.
Preparation & What to Expect:Although it’s selected to sink, fresh driftwood often needs soaking before it stays reliably submerged, so give it a good rinse and soak it until waterlogged — boiling smaller pieces speeds this up, and a rock will hold a stubborn piece down in the meantime. Expect a light tea-colored tint at first as natural tannins release; this is harmless and even beneficial for soft-water and blackwater species, and a few water changes or some activated carbon will clear it. A soft white biofilm in the first couple of weeks is a normal part of curing — harmless, grazed happily by shrimp, and it fades on its own as the tank establishes.
