ABOUT BLASTOMUSSA CORAL

Blastomussa corals resemble mushroom corallimorphs from a distance, but they’re a hardy LPS coral with simple care needs. They thrive in low light and require moderate flow. Easy to feed and propagate, they’re an excellent choice for reef enthusiasts seeking exotic yet manageable large polyp stony corals.

Lighting Requirements for Blastomussa Coral

Blastomussa corals prefer low to moderate lighting. They can adapt to higher light levels but thrive in shaded or lower light areas of the tank.

• Ideal PAR Range:
  50–150 PAR

• 50–100 PAR: Best for low light areas, promoting steady growth and vibrant colors without stressing the coral.

• 100–150 PAR: Works well in moderate light areas for optimal health and coloration.

• Spectrum:

• A blue-dominant spectrum (420–470nm) enhances the coral’s colors and promotes healthy growth.

• A full-spectrum light with a mix of blue and white also supports balanced growth.

• Lighting Type:

• Blastomussa corals thrive under LEDs, T5HO, or metal halide lighting, as long as the intensity remains within the recommended PAR range.

• Placement Tips:

• Place them in the lower to middle sections of the tank, where light intensity is gentle.

Water Flow Requirements for Blastomussa Coral

Blastomussa corals thrive in gentle to moderate, indirect water flow. They need enough movement to keep their polyps extended and free of debris but should not be exposed to strong currents.

• Flow Type:

• Gentle to moderate flow is ideal.

• The flow should be steady but not too forceful, allowing the coral’s polyps to gently sway without being blasted by strong currents.

• Why It Matters:
  Proper flow helps with nutrient exchange, waste removal, and promotes healthy polyp extension. Too much flow can cause stress, while too little can hinder growth.

• Placement Tips:

Position them in areas with gentle to moderate flow, such as the lower or middle sections of the tank, away from direct water currents.
