Dwarf Sagittaria, botanically Sagittaria subulata sabulata, is one of the most adaptable and practically useful foreground plants in the planted aquarium hobby — a fast-spreading North American plant that shoots runners rapidly to form dense mats of narrow, grass-like leaves across the foreground and into the midground. Its exceptional adaptability to a wide pH range including alkaline water makes it the natural foreground choice for community tanks where typical planted aquarium species might struggle.

Care tip:Dwarf Sagittaria grows best in moderate lighting with CO₂ not required. Maintain temperatures of 68–80°F and pH 6.0–8.0. Regular fertilization supports healthy growth.

Growing to 4 to 12 inches depending on lighting, Dwarf Sagittaria’s height is notably responsive to conditions — growing taller in lower light as it reaches toward the surface, and staying shorter and more compact under stronger light.
