Why Replace Your DI Resin?
The DI stage of an RO/DI system is the last line of defense in removing contaminants from the water before it’s used in our aquariums. Replacing the DI resin is crucial because it ensures the removal of residual TDS (total dissolved solids) that the RO membrane hasn’t removed.
How Often Should I Replace the DI Resin?
The length of time between resin changes will depend on the amount of RO/DI water you’re producing and the quality of water entering the DI resin, so it’s best to rely on the color change, rather than a specific time interval.
The color changing resin will go from a blue to amber color as it is exhausted. Because the water flows from the bottom of the cartridge to the top, this amber color will start towards the bottom and work it’s way up over time. When there is approximately 1″ of blue resin remaining, it’s time to replace your DI resin.
