Cryptocoryne usteriana, one of the largest species in the Cryptocoryne genus, can reach impressive heights of up to 27 inches. Native to the rivers of the Philippine island Guimaras, this plant was once mistaken for C. aponogetifolia due to their similarities.
When provided with optimal light and fertilization, the upper surface of its leaves exhibits a rich dark green or bronze-green hue, while the undersides develop a striking burgundy red. This plant thrives in hard water conditions, making it particularly suitable for Lake Tanganyika and Lake Malawi Cichlid tanks. To prevent the initial melting phase and for continued success with this plant, provide it with root fertilizing tablets or capsules, and repeat the dose every 2 – 3 months.Propagation occurs via long runners, making it easy to expand your aquascape. C. usteriana’s impressive size and vibrant coloration make it a standout choice for adding depth and drama to large aquariums.
