Cryptocoryne spiralis ‘Tiger’ is a striking aquarium plant ideal for the midground of a planted tank. Characterized by long, thin leaves with an intricate reddish-brown pattern, this medium to large-sized plant adds unique visual interest. It transitions beautifully from the midground to the background, making it perfect for creating depth in aquascapes. Like other Cryptocoryne species, C. spiralis ‘Tiger’ is relatively easy to care for, but it needs time to establish a solid root system. For best results, plant it in an established aquarium, as newly set-up tanks may lead to Crypt melt. Once fully rooted, this plant will become a standout feature in your aquascape.
This variety of Cryptocoryne spiralis thrives in a nutrient-rich substrate and benefits greatly from CO2 supplementation and the addition of root tabs every few months. It requires at least moderate lighting, with strong light helping to bring out its rich, showy coloration. Over time, daughter rosettes will appear at the base, developing new leaves and strong roots that can be cut for propagation. Unlike other Crypt species, C. spiralis ‘Tiger’ does not seem to produce long runners. Its deep red-brown tones contrast beautifully with lighter green plants, making it an eye-catching addition to larger aquariums. Ideal as a solitary bush in the midground, this plant adds depth and color to any aquascaping layout.
