Cryptocoryne undulata ‘Broad Leaves’ is a well-established species in the aquarium hobby, originally from the rivers and rivulets of Sri Lanka. Known for its ease of cultivation, this plant thrives in a nutrient-rich substrate and does not require CO2 supplementation. It is related to the popular Cryptocoryne wendtii and is similar in care.
Ideal for the midground of your aquarium, C. undulata ‘Broad Leaves’ features distinctive brown, slightly undulated, and occasionally marbled leaves that create a striking visual impact. The plant’s growth pattern varies with light conditions—taller in low light and more compact in high light. To prevent the initial melting phase and for continued success with this plant, provide it with root fertilizing tablets or capsules, and repeat the dose every 2 – 3 months. Avoid overcrowding by planting small portions a few centimeters apart. Propagation is straightforward; simply cut and replant the runners to quickly grow new specimens.
