Cryptocoryne affinis ‘Red’ is a less common Crypt with long, narrow leaves and subtle reddish-brown tones along the edges. It’s a nice change from the more common wendtii types, especially if you’re looking for something a little different without going too bold.
As it grows in, it forms dense clusters and can vary quite a bit depending on your setup. With stronger lighting and CO2, it tends to stay lower and spread out more. In lower-tech tanks, it can grow taller and add a bit of height and texture to the midground or background in smaller aquarium sizes
Like most Crypts, it prefers to be left alone once planted. It may go through a short adjustment period, but once it settles in, it grows steadily and will start sending out plantlets to form natural groups over time. Not as commonly available as other Crypts, but definitely worth trying if you like more subtle color and a slightly more natural, “grown-in” look!
