TheAquavitro Shrimp Small Hutby Seachem is a ceramic refuge that gives Neocaridina and Caridina shrimp a safe place to molt, rest, and brood. Multi-entry holes let shrimp duck in to avoid stress and predation, and the porous ceramic surface naturally grows the biofilm and fine algae shrimp graze on — the same micro-foods that keep colonies healthy and breeding.
Add it to your shrimp tank alongside our Freshwater Invertebrates, browse more Freshwater setup essentials, or shop our complete Fish & Invert Food selection.
Why Shrimp Keepers Love It
- Reduces stress— shrimp instinctively seek tight, dark hides when molting or carrying eggs.
- Increases survival ratefor newly hatched shrimplets that need refuge from larger tankmates.
- Biofilm magnet— porous ceramic cultures the micro-foods shrimp graze on continuously.
- Multi-hole design— several entries / exits so dominant shrimp can’t monopolize the hide.
- Fresh or saltwater safe— inert ceramic that will not affect water chemistry.
- Small footprint— fits planted nano tanks, breeder boxes, and shrimp racks.
Setup & Use
- Rinse the hut under fresh tap water before use — do not use soap or detergent.
- Place in the tank where shrimp gather (near food, plants, or sponge filter intake).
- Cluster multiple huts to create a shrimp “city” for larger colonies.
- Leave undisturbed so biofilm can establish on the ceramic surface.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will it affect my water parameters?
No — it is inert ceramic and will not change pH, hardness, or TDS.
How many do I need?
One per ~10 adult shrimp is a good starting density. Add more huts as the colony grows.
Can I use it in a saltwater tank?
Yes — inverts like sexy shrimp or peppermint shrimp will also use it, and the ceramic is reef-safe.
Do I need to clean it?
Try not to. The biofilm that builds up on the surface is exactly what your shrimp eat. Only rinse if it becomes clogged with detritus.
