Anubias barteri var. Nana “Golden”, is a cultivated color variant of the popular Anubias barteri var. Nana.Instead of deep green hues, the leaves of the Anubias ‘Golden’ are more chartreuse in coloration, creating great contrast to deeper green plants.
This slow-growing plant features a creeping rhizome from which long-lasting, sturdy leaves emerge. Anubias nana is highly adaptable and can grow in a wide range of light conditions, from very low light (0.25 watts per liter) to intense light (1 watt per liter). Although it can thrive without CO2, carbon dioxide supplementation and nutrient-rich substrates can enhance its growth. Elevated phosphate levels (1.5-2 mg/l), paired with proper iron and micronutrient supply, promote flowering and help minimize algae growth, especially under strong lighting.
Anubias nana is versatile in aquascaping, well-suited for the foreground in larger tanks or as a mid-ground accent in nano setups. It can be attached to driftwood or rocks using nylon thread or planted in the substrate, but care must be taken to avoid burying the rhizome to prevent rot. Its durability, ease of care, and elegant appearance make Anubias barteri var. nana a must-have for any planted aquarium, providing natural beauty and resilience.
